Our regular activities include; social events and youth activities including sports, as well as music & arts workshops. The forum aims to deliver activities which bring disparate groups of young people together trough jointly organising and delivering sessions to develop a better understanding of each others cultures. The broad age group targeted through activities will be aged between 13-25 from across Leeds but primarily in inner city areas including Harehills & Beeston.
The need for youth activities was highlighted in the LMYF Muslim Youth Speak report, which confirmed that the recent austerity measures have had an impact in the reduction of services available to young people and this has led to issues such as anti social behaviour and mistrust within communities. The workshops which were led by the LMYF and attended by local young people looked at how the situation could be improved and two key factors emerged; the need for young people’s activities particularly those culturally sensitive and aimed at bringing together all sections of the community and secondly the activities with the involvement of the young people themselves in the decision making.
The LMYF is a project which aims to give young people a voice and vehicle for taking the lead in tackling issues affecting them by empowering and supporting our ambassadors through training, setting up of networks and empowering them in organising and delivering activities which are relevant to the needs of their target group.
